  1. I think you did an excellent job altogether -- not only did you have a strong academic presentation but the theme is clearly evident throughout your whole PowerPoint, blog, and poster. You included a lot of information within a short amount of time. I was interested throughout your presentation because of the different time period and topics that were discussed, and your ability to inform the class about them in a way that wasn't boring. You were very professional and did an exceptional job. I also felt honored to read your research paper; it carried a sophisticated tone throughout and it was clear the research you did and the knowledge you gained. I hope you got a 100%, you deserve it :-)

  3. I thought you did a great job presenting, personally I always think it is hard to be one of the first people to go, I’d rather wait until the end so I am always impressed when someone does such a stellar job being one of the first ones to go! Your presentation was one of the ones that sticks in my head the most and that is impressive since it’s been a few days since your presentation. One of the reasons I think that I can remember your presentation so well is the ease with the topic during your whole presentation. It almost seemed like you had been studying this for years with the way you presented.

  4. Great Work Austin. Your presentation was very impressive and you did a good job providing historical context for Boccaccio’s age. Your presentation handout deserves special mention because it was well designed and highlighted well old literary devices as well as the new one I was introduced to, the conceit. The presentation also helped to divide the central theme of the book, feelings of love, into its principle parts by character with the explanation of the names of Panfilo, Filostrato, and Dioneo. I appreciated reading about them in your research paper and learning how Boccaccio related with them. I would have liked to see you comment on the diction and syntax of the translation specifically to see how the translator himself interpreted the story but I understand that would have fallen outside the purview of this assignment.

  5. Your overall presentation was fantastic. You hit on so many facets of the novel and of your author in such a short amount of time. One of the greatest part of your presentation, and of your research paper, was your overarching theme of love and how you tied it together with the narrators of the collection in a way that transcended even the Decameron and into the Boccardo’s life. Your analysis into his past influences, especially into Dante’s Divine Comedy, and how they affected his works was solid, showing the depth of your research. Overall, it was a very well done paper and presentation.

  6. Hi Austin! First, I think you had the best command of visual design of anyone in our class: Your slides, poster, and handout are all decorative but easy to follow. Your analysis of the Decameron was also very insightful; looking at how the characters embody an aspect of love lent itself to a clear structure and focused your essay. Your research paper was also excellent, good use of scholarly prose- it felt a bit like the professional papers I dug through. You ran out of time during your presentation, but I think that we got a lot of info and you had too much material and depth for ten minutes. I’d suggest you do a shallower presentation but that would be a bad idea. Overall, a great job.
